After the catastrophic wars distanced the clans, the races of Eve strived to build their own separate identities. Though all five of the races in the Eve World are humans, but there is no question of anyone confusing one race with the other. They look different. Each race has a distinct style and specialty.

The five major power-player races of the Eve World are,

  • Amarr
  • Gallente
  • Caldari
  • Minmatar
  • Jovian

Inter-Racial Tension

The inter-racial tension in Eve is one that is on the brink of an inter-stellar war. Ranging from the tribal tendencies of the Minmatar to the Imperial Kingdom of Amarr, the beliefs and values of the races in Eve differ only so much as black differs white! The self righteous Gallente live in the same world as the not-so scrupulous Caldari warriors, so quite understandably it takes lots of effort on the part of each race to withstand the other's viewpoint.

Starting off in Eve

In the flux of the Eve World, a newcomer has to pick a race of his own choice. Whether you choose to be a part of the gallant Gallente Federation or you choose to join the corporate-run Caldari Empire is totally dependent on the choice you make. Each race has its own region of dominance. The Amarr Empire spans over 40% of Eve while the rest of the Empires may be smaller in size but not weaker. The mysteriously elusive Jovians, though, are not yet a playable race.

The incredible thing about characterization in Eve is the detail of character formation. From the color of the hair to the bridge of his nose, you can custom your character just the way you like. Having said that, the characteristic look of the selected race remains evident from the end product, no amount of fine tuning can result in a Gallente being mistaken for an Amarr.

EVE - EXODUS

EVE takes place in a cluster of stars far from mankind's original habitat, planet Earth. How far away, and whether or not that cradle of civilization still exists, is a mystery. Humans arrived through a natural wormhole and, gazing up upon an alien sky they had never seen, were completely unable to determine where this new world was located. From the New Eden solar system, where the gate of EVE once led to the old world, humans expanded in all directions at a furious pace, exploring and colonizing rapidly.

Then, unexpectedly and seemingly unprovoked, the EVE gate collapsed in an apocalyptic catastrophe of a scale never before witnessed by the human race, ruining the New Eden system in the process. Thousands of small colonies were left in complete isolation to fend for themselves, cut off from the old world. For millennia they endured, clinging to the brink of extinction, and only a handful managed to survive.

Of those that lasted, five were to rise up and become the major empires that, between them, hold the balance of power in the world of EVE. Today, they are known as the Amarr Empire, the Gallente Federation, the Caldari State, the Minmatar Republic, and the Jovian Empire. Additionally, the world is full of several small, independent factions and states.

For more than a century, the five empires have lived together in relative peace. They've continually strived to maintain this peace, as each faction realizes only too well the grave consequences of a massive inter-stellar war. Recent technological breakthroughs in FTL travel, and the ensuing increase in space travelers, have shaken, but not broken, the fragile peace... at least not yet.
